OUR VISION

Our vision is to create a safe and sustainable surf/ocean practice into your lives. We believe that integrating the resources of our ecosystem, community and connection are essential to preserve our physical, mental and spiritual wholeness.

  • We are a training hub for Helpers, Healers, Mental Health Clinicians and Curious Souls who love the powers of the Ocean and have committed to dedicate their self-care and increasing spiritual, physical, emotional and social capacity.

Our team is integrated with graduate to doctoral level interns in psychology, licensed clinicians, and community professionals, at all levels of surf and ocean competency, and we strive to model the learning theory within developmental milestones.

We acknowledge that post-pandemic causal factors have required an increasing need for mentors, facilitators of intentional space, and nature-focused initiatives to counter its effects on society.

With our training we are more able to volunteer for our community’s like-minded programs, increase our threshold for our clinical work, and target a more general population in need of integrated mental health services.

We are the 501(c)3 non-profit Fiscal Sponsor for Heart Theory Inc., and all donations provide a cost-effective means to guiding individuals safely to the ocean.

  • We combine the healing powers of the ocean with the therapeutic benefits of surfing to create a unique and transformative experience for individuals of all ages. Our program is designed to promote mental, emotional, and physical well-being through guided surf sessions, connection with nature, and inclusive of community support and needs

We offer a Volunteer & Practicum Internship program to train together aiming for best practices in the intersectional space of Mental Health and Surf Therapy. We meet for in-person and virtual sessions to continue the learning trajectory over the lifespan.

    1. Surfing has a great potential to help reduce anxiety & depression, amongst many other conditions and diagnostic criteria. During August 2020–February 2021, the percentage of adults with recent symptoms of an anxiety or a depressive disorder increased from 36.4% to 41.5%, and the percentage of those reporting an unmet mental health care need increased from 9.2% to 11.7%. Increases were largest among adults aged 18–29 years and those with less than a high school education. (source here)

    2. Surfing reduces isolation and can be preventative towards suicidal symptoms. Suicide rates increased approximately 36% between 2000–2022. Suicide was responsible for 49,476 deaths in 2022, which is about one death every 11 minutes. The number of people who think about or attempt suicide is even higher. In 2022, an estimated 13.2 million adults seriously thought about suicide, 3.8 million planned a suicide attempt, and 1.6 million attempted suicide. (source here)
